Your Group Can Help

Your service group, school team, family, or group of friends can join together and volunteer as a group.

Sometimes these groups are organized as a corporate effort in team building, and sometimes it’s a group of young people who want to gain experience in service based work. Last year Slow Food Sonoma County North’s project Slow Harvest adopted Food For Thought and have gathered and delivered fresh organic produce for our clients every Thursday morning.

Slow Harvest began only 8 months ago. In that time, intrepid gleaners have gathered over 7400 pounds of fruit, vegetables and bakery goods. We hosted 4 community canning events with volunteers preserving over 650 pints of apple and tomato sauce, and 1000 tamales. This fresh, local, organic bounty, and preserved harvest has been distributed to Food For Thought Food Bank, Healdsburg Food Pantry, local Senior Centers, Redwood Gospel Mission, and Redwood Empire Food Bank. Nathan Boone of First Light Farm in Sebastopol has been incredibly generous to let us glean at his farm weekly. In the process of gleaning, we have formed new friendships, are inspired by these weekly “adventures”, and hugely thankful we can make a difference to help end hunger in our county.

Every year at the holiday season, crews of employees from Medtronics, volunteer their time to help put together holiday goodies and meal fixings for our 650 clients and their families. We can't say enough about  their assembly line production team  and great energy which always makes the job go so much faster!
