Sonoma County loves Dining Out for Life!
You are invited to join in the fun and dine out on Thursday, December 1st, at one of your favorite restaurants. Eighty Sonoma County restaurants will donate 25 or 50 percent of their sales to Food For Thought that day, which happens to also be World AIDS Day. The event's slogan is "Dine Out. Fight AIDS."
“On this one day we hope to raise over $100,000,” says Food For Thought Executive Director Ron Karp. "Five-thousand people went out to dinner in support of our agency in 2010 when we had sixty-eight restaurants participate. This year promises to be even bigger since 80 restaurants signed on, it is our tenth anniversary and it falls on World AIDS Day, so we’re very excited.”
Dining Out for Life is a fundraising event that is easy to participate in. All you have to do is eat at one of the participating restaurants on Thursday, December 1, and that restaurant will donate a portion of the bill to Food For Thought – Sonoma County AIDS Food Bank. Reservations are recommended, and Food For Thought asks you to let restaurants know you are coming for Dining Out for Life when making your reservations. In addition to dinner, at some restaurants you can eat out for breakfast and lunch too. Restaurants are listed at DiningOutForLife.com under the "Sonoma County" menu pull-down.
Tess Ostopowicz of GTO’s Seafood House in Sebastopol says, “It is a great way to support a vital local non-profit and introduce new customers to your restaurant, in turn enjoying a very busy night.”
Katherine Castillo, owner of Checker’s Restaurant in Santa Rosa and a long time supporter of this event, echoes the enthusiasm, “This event attracts the kind of guests that every owner appreciates.”
Additionally, diners have the chance to win spectacular prizes – including two Virgin America Airline tickets, a "Wine Country Weekend" (B&B stay, wine and wine tour), and a bountiful basket of Nancy Boy natural bath body and home products – by entering the exclusive drawing.
A big draw is the chance for patrons to save all year at local hotspots. The concept is simple – anyone who donates $25 or more in their raffle envelope on December 1, 2010 will receive a “20% Off Tuesdays” card with their thank you note. Each participating restaurant will offer a 20% discount off the food bill to the full table when a diner presents a “20% Off Tuesdays” card on Tuesday evenings throughout 2012. It’s a great way to support local restaurants all year long.
