Roberto Martin

Roberto Martin

Roberto Martin was reared with a good sense and value for local food and community. It could be attributed to watching all his father’s hard work as a hand on a dairy farm where Roberto and his three younger siblings grew up in Sonoma. His Parents both native to Mexico, moved to California when Roberto was a few months old, with the intention to give Roberto opportunities virtually only found in the States. Roberto found himself drawn to food and felt that it was a positive way to connect with people, as well as being an artistic outlet; this led him to work in the kitchens of several fine-dining restaurants in Sonoma County over the years. Roberto has always carried a passion for people and held a curiosity for the mysteries and great questions of life. Following this curiosity, he moved to the Bay Area for school, eventually graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Philosophy. In the Sumer of 2014 Roberto was offered a position with Growing Readers, a non-profit that partnered with Santa Rosa’s Libraries to form a program that fosters reading in school- age children. Roberto’s role was working one-on-one with Spanish speaking children and their families offering quality support so that the program meets the needs of all the individuals served. Having that experience had a great impact on Roberto. He was able to see a gap that is present in the community, where often times the Latino and Spanish speaking-population are missing out on resources simply due to language barriers. Roberto recently moved to Sebastopol and has joined the Food Bank Team. Roberto is thrilled to marry his love for people, food and serving the community at Food For Thought!
