May 26, 1953 - April 22, 2012
A memorial service and celebration of Erik’s life will be held on Saturday June 23 at 3 p.m. at The Center for Spiritual Living, 2075 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa.
Erik worked as the food bank’s Administrative Assistant from 1994 through 2010, and then shared his vast expertise of art and collectibles at FFT Antiques until last year when he was diagnosed with lymphoma.
Erik brought his one-of-a-kind élan, wit, and brilliance to everything he did. His was the first face and voice most clients and volunteers encountered; and after speaking with Erik – who could converse about pretty much anything and in almost any language – people realized they had found a place above and beyond their expectations.
As a man living with AIDS himself, Erik generously shared his story with clients who were newly diagnosed with HIV, reassuring them that they, too, could live a long and splendid life. He helped them know they would be receiving not just bags of groceries, but also support, connection, and a much-needed sense of community.
We love Erik, we will miss him, and we can’t imagine the world without him.
Rest in Peace.
Erik’s partner Eric is making plans for a memorial service sometime in the future; please call Rachel at the food bank (887-1647 ext. 104) for information.
